Green City Growers Installs Organic Garden at Osteria Posto Restaurant

The new Waltham location of the popular Davis Square Italian eatery will now serve farm-to-table inspired cocktails and dishes.

10/09/2015 – Somerville, MA: Green City Growers (GCG) announced today the installation of a new raised bed garden at Osteria Posto, the latest restaurant from the Alpine Restaurant Group, set to open in November at the new City Point developmentlocated at 99 Third Avenue near Route 128 in Waltham.

Given the late installation date, the garden will be planted with mostly mums, pansies, and herbs this fall, with the expectation that a spring 2016 plant-in will substitute many of the flowers for edible plants. Crops grown in the garden beds will be incorporated directly into several dishes on Osteria Posto’s seasonal Italian menu.

“It’s very exciting to be working with Joe [Cassinelli] and Osteria Posto after years of waiting for the right site to present itself,” says GCG CEO and Founder Jessie Banhazl, who has overseen the installation of gardens at several Boston-area restaurants, including Abigail’s in Kendall Square, The Sinclair, and large-scale rooftop farms at Ester in Dorchester and Fenway Park. “As was the case with Alpine, not every site can support urban agriculture, but certainly we’re seeing a huge desire from restaurant-owners to incorporate on-site gardens wherever possible.”

The nearly 140 square foot garden will be planted in a series of large metal troughs and tall planters, and is designed to provide a visually appealing and productive border to the restaurant’s entrance. The troughs will be mounted on wheeled castors, to allow for easy movement and storage during winter months.

“We believe that food should be served using only the freshest farm-to-table ingredients,” says chef owner Joe Cassinelli, “and the addition of the Green City Growers garden allow us to do that.”

Osteria Posto is set to open this November.
