RED SOX AND GREEN CITY GROWERS CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF FENWAY FARMS

The Boston Red Sox and Linda Henry, in partnership with Green City Growers, celebrated the 10th anniversary of Fenway Farms, the ballpark’s rooftop garden, on Wednesday, September 24. Since its creation in 2015, Fenway Farms has produced more than 55,000 pounds of sustainably grown vegetables and herbs, supplying fresh ingredients for Fenway Park’s kitchens while supporting local nonprofits, schools, and food access organizations. Operated in partnership with Green City Growers, the 5,000-square-foot garden has become a national model for sustainability in sports.

“Ten years ago, we turned an unused rooftop on the oldest operating ballpark in Major League Baseball into a thriving garden that now produces thousands of pounds of fresh produce each year,” said Linda Henry, Red Sox Partner and CEO of Boston Globe Media. “Fenway Farms is proof that with a few simple tools and the right partners, even the most unexpected places can be transformed into something meaningful. It reminds us that even the most overlooked spaces can, with creativity, be reimagined into something productive and lasting.”

“Fenway Farms shows what’s possible when we put unused urban space to work,” said Chris Grallert, CEO of Green City Growers. “Over the past decade, it has produced thousands of pounds of food while serving as a living example of how cities can integrate green infrastructure into their communities. We’re grateful to the Red Sox for their long-term commitment to sustainability and for using this platform to highlight the importance of locally grown food.”

“Fenway Farms has been a wonderful addition to our kitchens at Fenway Park. Having access to fresh, sustainably grown produce just steps away allows us to enhance our menus in meaningful ways,” said Ron Abell, Fenway Park Executive Chef, Aramark. “It’s been rewarding to share the garden’s harvest with fans and staff, and I look forward to continuing to incorporate its produce in the seasons to come.”

Fenway Farms is presented by Fenway Park concessionaire, Aramark, Pennington, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and greening initiatives.
