Camp Harbor View
, founded in 2007, offers close to 800 children aged 11 to 14 living in Boston’s at-risk neighborhoods the opportunity to leave the city during the day and participate in a four-week summer camp program on Long Island in Boston Harbor.
The System We Created
Since 2011, Camp Harbor View has included garden education alongside their other innovative camp activities in the Knowledge is Power program. The education staff at GCG runs multiple sessions with campers throughout the day, teaching them about nutrient cycles and ecology at their fifteen raised beds.
Where Does the Food Go?
Campers and staff take the harvest home with them at the end of the day. And getting home these days requires taking a ferry across the harbor, after the bridge that previously connected the island to the mainland was torn down. Talk about dedication to the campers!
Camp Harbor View was created in partnership with the City of Boston and the Boys and Girls Club. We love working with Cara Gould, Camp Director, and Greg Stoddard, Director of Operations. Above all else, we love getting a chance to team up with the inspirational and passionate campers of Camp Harbor View!
